Apply to Become Namibia’s Future Transport Planner

Project Lecture at UNAM

University of Namibia (UNAM) and Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) application deadlines are around the corner. 31st August 2016 is the deadline for application forms for all candidates who wish to study at NUST, for UNAM see dates below. Transport 4 People encourages to start studying or to progress studies in the field of Civil Engineering at the Namibian tertiary institutions. Both institutions offer Bachelor as well as Master degrees in Civil Engineering. The Civil Engineering degree offers a wide base of knowledge with the possibility to focus on transportation. Courses are available for full- and part-time study. NUST also offers a Bachelor Degree in Transport Management which offers majoring either in Transport Operations Management or Road Safety Management.

The Civil Engineering Master’s degree at UNAM has three options: Water, Structure and Transportation. Modules in the Transportation option include: Spatial Monitoring and Planning, Infrastructure Development, Transport Economics, Road and Railway Engineering, International Traffic & Transport Logistics, Aviation and Port Engineering.

The new design and re-structuring of the relevant modules has focused on a student and industry-centered approach as students are trained for possible tasks they might encounter in their future job descriptions. The departments have also recently received state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.

As at the moment more than 25% of enrolled students are women, it can no longer be said civil engineering or transportation in particular is a men’s field.

International lecturers support the departments until the students and graduates of today are able to take over the roles within the university departments in the future. The students can also profit from close cooperation with transport projects in Namibia as the implementation of MoveWindhoek as well as Transport4People offer job opportunities, internships and project studies for enrolled students as well as for graduates.

In the light of the road safety and transportation situation in Namibia, well-educated civil engineers and transportation specialists are of the essence to create sustainable change for the improvement of quality of life for all Namibians.
